We are familiar with criminal families in organized crime from popular films such as The Godfather and series such as The Sopranos. In reality, family ties also play an important role in subversive crime.
In a world where there is no legal certainty, bonds of trust are essential. Therefore, family members are the preferred choice. As in ‘normal’ family businesses, involvement in serious crime appears to be easily passed on from one generation to the next. 'Prominent' criminal families also appear to exert a major negative influence on their immediate environment by setting a bad example.
