Tackling organized crime and subversion: what can the Netherlands learn from Italy's fight against the mafia?

“The approach to undermining will be strengthened by amending legislation, investigation, penalties, data exchange, and detention. In doing so, we will draw on lessons learned from the fight against the mafia in Italy,” according to the coalition agreement of the new cabinet.

But what are these lessons? How has the mafia manifested itself in Italy and what developments have taken place in this regard? What elements make up the Italian approach to the mafia and what is known about its effects and side effects? And how and to what extent can lessons be learned for the situation in the Netherlands? These questions was the focus of this CIROC seminar.
